Why we use present perfect

The present perfect is formed from the present tense of the verb have and the past participle of a verb.

We use the present perfect tense for something that started in the past and continues in the present:

She has lived in New York all her life

Note, however: We normally use the present perfect continuous for this: She has been living in New York all her life.

For an action that happened in the past, that has an impact on the present situation. Present tense of have and the past participle of the verb used.
