Learning how to use italki

I don't wanna be bitchy, but why people use the "Discussion" section for everything?

Here I see people asking questions, posting entries to be corrected, promoting their lessons,  etc.

Just click on "Community" and there you will find at least 90% of what you're looking for.

Do that and you'll keep this community organized as much as I try to do.

=)

I agree that the discussion page could be organized a lot better.  However, I found out that there's a way to search for discussions on particular topics using Google to search the italki discussions.  I'm sure most of you Google savvy people know about the ability to search a particular site on google by typing in your search site:italki.com (or also using Google's advanced search to add more specifics to your search including the website you want to search within).

I've found loads of discussion archives that are related to the specific topic that I'm interested in such as "Popular French Music," or "Popular French TV Shows."  Even just typing italki and my discussion topic in Google has resulted in me finding great discussion topics.  I was pretty thrilled when I discovered that this was a possibility.  Anyway, I hope this is helpful.  Cheers!

Big upvote from me. It is really difficult to find interesting discussions, because this section is used for all kinds of other purposes. There should be a separate section for advertising of Skype/Wechat/What'sApp groups. Anyway the discussion section is poorly designed anyway.

If italki had provided us a suggestion page, they would know that we need:

. a link where we could share our whatsapp/skype/viber etc. for language exchange - instead of having several people repeating the same topic over and over.

. a place that allow teachers and community tuttors not only to promote their lessons, but also let us know about some discount, news etc - much better than leaving messages on people's mail box.

. a page created for us to share all links and tools we find on the internet - it would be awesome to help beginners (like me in Russian and German).

. A calendar track, because when we share weekly our goals, it helps people to do the same and it also makes us keep doing it..

and last but not least: a page that could offer any subject such as: Polyglot meetings, lives, challenges etc.

Feedback is important, and we are both: students and clients.

I agree. It is hard to find interesting discussions on here. All I see are questions or looking for English speaker posts.

italki needs to improve their website. At least update it.

Hi there. I totally agree with you. Thanks for bringing up this topic. We all should bear in mind the definition of discussion.

Strictly from the Oxford dictionary:

The action or process of talking about something in order to reach a decision or to exchange ideas.

Anyway, italki should really upgrade this function, since it's pretty messy.
