English idioms part 2

Hello! Here are some more English idioms for everyone to learn. 


Bite off more than you can chew. ------

Definition: Taking on a task that's too big.

How to use: When you are concerned about someone(or you) doing something too hard. 

Using in conversation: 

Bob and Sally are outside playing. Bob sees a giant tree and says, "Sally, I am going to climb this tree!" Bob tries to climb, but gets stuck. 

Sally says, "I think you are biting off more than you can chew. Come down."


Far cry from......

Definition, "very different from _______" 

How to use: When comparing things together. 

Using in conversation: 

Bob buys two bags of apples. He eats one apple that is sour. Then he tries the next apple that is sweet. He tells Sally, "Wow, this apple is a far cry from that apple."

Let me make a sentence--  I chose a task that was a far cry among all the tasks and I thought I could finish that within a day, but later, I got my sense back and I realized that I just bit off more than I could chew.
