No, I am a Japanese Teacher in Tokyo. My students are Japanese or they are mixed Japanese. I see their struggles. I have a few non-Japanese students as well. They really have to work hard to be here. I see some advantages for them, but I also see more struggles.
I have seen many people come from Russia, Peru, China, Taiwan, Malaysia, America come to Japan. They can make a life, but it seems their life back home was or is better. Many leave after 10 or 15 years.
My condition is unique as a teacher with the government. But when I retire from this job, I will have to leave Japan as I know I have more opportunities outside Japan.
I know that sounds bad. But as a Japanese teacher in Tokyo, I can now see things I could not before. But please understand that I really do love the country and the people. It is a wonderful place to live and work. However, it is still very Japanese for Japanese.
