Korean literature - which books do you suggest?

I've just read this article in The Guardian - Top 10 books about South Korea.

What do you think?
I've read The Vegetarian, and also Human Acts - both by Han Kang. I really liked them, event though the stories are very sad and hard.
I think it's important to learn about the culture, not just the language.
As my Korean is still basic, I would need books already translated into English. Any suggestions?

Hi!
I'd like to recommend these Korean nevels, besides the novels in the article. For me, they are the most touching novels descrbing Korean modern history.
Yi ChongJun 《Your Paradise》
Cho SeHui 《The Dwarf》
Choi InHun 《The Square》

By the way, I don't like to recommend Go En. Recently he is involved in alleged sexual assaults for decades and exercising unjust superpower in Korean literary circle as a powerful candidate of Nobel Prize. I am questioning myself at the moment how great talents can match mean, hypocritical personality in geniuses.

A great book to understand recent Korean history is the novel, Pachinko by Min Jin Lee.

You are spot on about the importance of also learning the culture along with the language.    Learning a language without any exploration of the cultural side of it would be like wearing one shoe.   Even though I have been studying for a while I have not yet explored the depth of Korean literature and poetry, so I cannot recommend anything for you in that regard.   I would like to suggest though, please check out their traditional music.   Also, I have learned a lot about the culture through watching some of their dramas.

Thanks for your prompt replies.

I have seen some Korean music concerts at the Korean cultural institute here. Interesting, but I think pansori must be an acquired taste. On general Korean culture, I've read The New Koreans by Michael Breen (seems pretty good) and A Geek in Korea by Daniel Tudor (interesting about life today).
