Many years ago, I had the opportunity to talk to a famous (in England) English actor/comedian who I was my hero at the time, and I turned it down. He happened to be attending a play on the same night I was, and sat only a few rows in front of me in the theater.
During the intermission, I could have gone up and talked to him because he was alone, but I didn't.
A) he was there privately, not professionally. I can't imagine anything worse for famous people than to be accosted by fans when they are only out for a pleasant evening and
B) what could I say that he hadn't heard 1,000 before? There was no way I could have expressed adequately to him how important his example was to me...and although I am sure he would have been very polite to me if I had tried, it still would have meant nothing to him.
So, I didn't speak to him. And I don't regret it. :-)
