What's the good way to improve listening and speaking skills?

I just wanna know that when you learn languages, and you would like to improve your

listening and speaking skills, how do you study?

I mean, which kind of materials you usually use? For example, YouTube videos, apps, audio books...and so on.

The reason why I want to discuss that just because, I can communicate with native English speakers, but if they speak fast or if they use lots of idioms or slangs, I cannot catch the meaning sometimes.

I know why it happens because of my vocabulary and listening skills are not enough.

So I need to improve both of them.

And this is my question again.

Can somebody recommend me good materials to improve listening and vocabulary?

Also, I'd like to know which kind of materials you use when you study English or other languages as well.

Thank you.

I agree with Bruno, watching movies is an excellent resource for your purpose. I have been training my listening by watching movies. If it were difficult to understand I read subtitles and translated them. Then I'd listened to each phrase many times and repeated it. It could take a lot of time and sometimes get boring, but it really works!

Hello, Kana!

I had the same problem! And the weirdest thing is the more I had been studying, the worse my result was.

But one day I discovered the website "VOA Learning English" (the link is below):

This is an American newsportal which is able really help to improve the skills that you already have.

Good luck in learning! :)

just take it easy, step by step

first watch movies with english subtitle a lot. this will improve 2 parts of learning english which are listening and vocabulary ( as Bruno mentioned write all you listen and you can pick the new words that you don't know) , you can also do this too by listen to songs with lyrics , and then move to the second step which is speaking. as long as you practice your listening skill you won't have a problem with speaking with a native speaker, i mean you will be able to understand him/her and that will lead you to speak freely, and good luck with that :)

First Watch movies with subtitles. The Main thing is you have to listen carefully, then you have to watch same video without subtitle. This way will give better result in listening skills.

By the way, Kana, if you study Brazilian Portuguese, you might find helpful Semântica Portuguese. They make TV-series for Portuguese learners (English-speaking). They have a lot for free on their youtube-channel and also offer to sign up for more materials and exercise. I watched two their series when began to study Portuguese. They helped me to improve my listening and to get actual vocabulary.
