How many national holidays do you have in your country?
People say we have a lot of national holidays in Brazil.
We celebrate:
Jan/1 - New year
Carnival - Starts on Saturday and goes until Wednesday midday. It changes each year because follow Lunar Calendar. 40 days before Easter Sunday.
Good friday - Friday before Easter Sunday. It commemorates Jesus Christ’s Passion, crucifixion, and death.
Apr/21 - Tiradentes day. One guy that started a small revolution when Portugal's king rose the tax to 20% but nowadays we pay to Brazilian government 33% without any word.
May/1 - Labor day
Corpus Christi - 40 days after Easter Sunday. I don't know exactly what we celebrate but I like the day off.
Sept/7 - Our Independence from Portugal
Oct/12 - Our Lady Aparecida
Nov/02 - dead's days (All Souls' Day)
Nov/15 - Republic Proclamation Day
Dec/25 - Cristmas
It's seems to be a lot but I don't think so.
It's funny because we can see a lot of people complaining about segregation between state and religion but I can't see anyone complaining about religious holidays.
