How to keep making progress when you've reached an advanced level in a language

Hi everyone!

Does anyone have any tips on how you can still make progress in a language even though you are already fluent? I have this issue with English, because I'm at a point where I feel quite confident about my level yet I feel like I could still make progress, and I just don't know how. Is anyone going through the same thing, and what do you do in order to keep learning?

You have to force yourself to study advanced topics, things you wouldn't normally be interested in or talk about. For example, I'm pretty good in Chinese after 10 years and a degree, but these articles on Astrophysics (one of my favourite subject areas in English) are kicking my arse.

Don't you have the same feelings about your French? That there is still room for improvement.

Yeah, I also feel like I stuck at my current level, but I don't care and keep on enjoying learning process via reading and watching  in English whatever I'm interested in.

One of the things you could look into is reading high-school literature in English. You can search "high school reading list" to see what books are popular, and they provide great resources for practicing your inference skills and building even more vocabulary.

I could go on forever, but anytime you read literature at the native level you will be reading the language in a whole new way :)

I think you need to ask yourself which aspect(s) of your English you'd like to improve and then focus on those. 

For instance, if you'd like to expand your vocabulary, then nothing beats reading. Or if you'd like to improve your grammar, then you probably need to get a grammar book for advanced learners and study from that.
