Daylight saving time.

Daylight saving time starts in Europe in 14 hours from now (UTC+1) at 2 o clock in the night between Saturday and Sunday. Do you have this measure in your country? Do you like it or are you bothered by it?

In which night do you change from winter to summertime?

I like to put my whatch forward for an hour during summer. I do not mind at all getting up one hour earlier . It is nice to leave my office in the late afternoon and still find some light outside.

I'm against the idea of daylight saving. It just doesn't make sense to me mathematically. Why do we have to adjust clocks instead of adjusting working hours?

Anyway, in my country (Iran), we adjust clocks one hour forward in vernal equinox (astronomical spring - when the earth enters the Aries constellation: Farvardin) and set them one hour back in autumnal equinox (astronomical autumn - when the earth enters the Libra constellation: Mehr).

I hasten to come to bed because of the shortened night! :-) But before, I would like to affirm: Yes, old habits die hard! Very long and hard! The agony has been going longer than twenty years! And an end is not to see. It is the only reasonable explanation for continuing something that makes no sense in the sum. No sense = nonsense! :-)

Daylight saving time can be confusing and reflect political and cultural realities.

Exactly a year ago, I had an Arabic lesson with a teacher from East Jerusalem. We both weren’t sure at what time we would meet. We also weren’t sure if italki had figured out the right time** 

So this year, I avoided booking a lesson on this crucial weekend 

** in Israel including West Jerusalem summertime started on Friday March 23 at two o clock in the morning. In the Palestinian Territories including East Jerusalem and Gaza it will start in a few hours in the night from Saturday to Sunday.

I hate daylights savings time myself, with a passion. I think it’s complete insanity that makes no sense whatsoever. And few people have a clue as to how or why it ever started. I heard it started in the US in the 1930s and spread to Europe after 1945. I was told it was started during the US depression of the 1930s to allow farmers more sunlight to work in the fields and bring in their crops, something that has no relevance today. Many US States have dropped it and refuse to follow it (Arizona and Hawaii are two examples) but California has hung on to it and it started here a month ago or so. Why Europe hasn‘t abondoned it makes no sense. I suppose old habits die hard.
