Hello,

I think that some cities, as people, have a very bright personality which isn’t exactly related to architecture or other visial signs.

For example, I’ve heard that in Spain such cities are Madrid and Barcelona but I don’t know why.  Or in Malta it’s Mdina and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. In Russia it might be St Petersburg(where I was born and live) and Moscow. 

St Pete is considered to be the Russian cultural capital, a hometown for underground music, an artistic bohemian city where having a blue mood and being a bit weird are the norm. 

A typical St Petersburg citizen might be described as a person who reads a lot, well-rounded, has a tendency to be snobby, likes intellectual and philosophical reasoning, has knowledge of art/culture, has a bit cynical attitude, a subtle sense of humour as well as swearing when it’s totally unexpected. Can you imagine a lady with a perfect style, speaking with a soft voice and having aristocratic manners who suddenly says a swearing word? This is the case:)  Moreover,we have “our” words for many items when in Moscow they are called differently. Often people who like St Pete don’t like Moscow and vice versa. I’ve heard it many times even from tourists.
