It's not easy to recommend something like Forrest Gump or Amelie :)) If you like international cinema then I recommend you to watch Amarcord, the Italian 1973 film by Federico Fellini. It's a simple, down to earth comedy drama that shows few random scenes of what ordinary life in Italy looked like during fascism.

I also would like to recommend you to watch Pulp Fiction By Quentin Tarantino and Intouchables (2011 French film) if you haven't already watched them. I think I should stop here before my post gets longer than it is.
