What you were guided when choosing a language? Hi. Italki users learn different languages, I am curious why did you choose such a language to learn? For example you like country of this language, sound or this language is easy for you to learn? You can share with other reasons too.

German: when I was 15 years old, I used to listen to Lacrimosa and I read "The sorrows of young Werther" and "The Robbers". I always had the best grades in Portuguese and wanted to try something harder.

Italian: I went to a language school to learn German and it gave a discount for students that wanted to learn another language. They had French, English, Italian, Spanish and German courses. I chose Italian just because I didn't like French/English and I had Spanish classes at regular school. Unfortunately, I stopped learning Italian and German at the age of 17.

Japanese: my grandparents came from Japan and it's a way to understand their culture and thoughts.

English: I took English classes earlier, but I didn't learn so much. Now I'm 24 and I've been living in Germany since July/2017. I returned studying German, Japanese and Italian and now I've been learning English to increase my chances of getting a job.

How about you, Rose?

* Nowadays I am totally in love with German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish and French. Having a good English teacher and being able to understand what people write on Italki, I am also enjoying learning English.

I am learning Spanish because I have a lot of friends from Latin America and I want to talk to them in their language.

Thank you for these aswers.

@ Cynthia

Now I am focused on improving the learning English and Italian. Why these languages? English because it is an international language. In turn the Italian, because I like how is sound this language (especially the song).

I was forced to learn Spanish as a child and totally rebelled from that.  (My biggest regret!!)

I learned Haitian Creole from living and working in Haiti.  It made such an impact on how I was able to do my job, that I make a point to learn as much of the language as I can before I go anywhere.   Picked back up my Spanish after living in Peru.
