Should we eat meat or not? I'm currently preparing for a debate, and the subject is if we should eat meat products or not. I haven't yet decided if I should choose the affirmative or negative side, so I'd like to know what you think and if you know any good resources for the preparation.

I dont think we should (or need to) be eating meat anymore- unless it is sourced directly from a farmer/local butcher and you are sure how the animal has lived.

Im vegetarian now after deciding that id rather eat no meat, then the processed, hormone filled rubbish that is mostly on offer. People are quick to judge the vegan/vegetarian choices made by others, happy to use the argument that 'humans were designed to eat meat' and whilst that may be true, our society and meat farming is a long way from what it was when humans were hunting and gathering fresh meat for survial.

Meat is being mass farmed-the sea is being polluted because of the huge amounts of waste being dumped from this mass farming. It is cruel and animals are suffering.

On top of this, plastics are polluting our sealife :(

What is the point of insisting on a meat based diet when the world needs us to really look at how we live our lives, and adjust it to repair the damage we have already done with greed and a 'disposable´ culture.

@SHL
I'm not selling any cult materials on my website at this moment, but I do have a nice cupcake recipe that might improve your mood. You really need to relax a bit.

Whether or not humans should eat meat, is an interesting topic and it should be possible to have a nice, decent discussion about this. However, when one side starts throwing out random words like "zealots", "cults" and "fanatics", which contribute absolutely nothing to the conversation, it stops any possibility of an intelligent discussion.

Vera: not so much.  Modern chimpanzees get about 2% of their calories from meat (including insects).  Modern gorillas get about 3% of their calories from meat.  Both are classified as "omnivorous frugivores": yes,they eat everything, but they mostly eat plants. In modern hunter/gatherer societies, meat consumption is very variable: Inuit have a very high-meat diet, but the Yanomamo have nutrient intake ratios similar to those of chimpanzees--in other words, they are nearly vegetarian.  In America and Europe, vegetarians usually live a bit longer than meat eaters, but the difference is not particularly impressive  (https://academic.oup.com/ajcn/article/78/3/526S/4689992).

Humans seem to manage well with a variety of diets.  Neither vegetarianism nor meat-eating is the secret to good health.  Whatever you eat, eat it in moderation; exercise; have a large network of friends.  It's probably a good idea to try to avoid large quantities of processed food.  Once you have done that, do as your tastebuds and conscience dictate.

Personally, I was a vegetarian for 16 years.  Now, I get about 10% of my calories from animals.

@Jerry
"But these facts are unconvincing to most of the vegan religion adherents. They'll choose animal life over human life every time. They believe that non-human animals are highest on the tree of life."

Yep Jerry, it's all about the animals. That's why I speak 5 languages, so I can communicate better with the animals.
You are by far the most closed-minded person here on italki and yet you accuse vegans of having "clouded minds".
