How do you come across with the best books to read? I want to invest in books recently. I have heard of famous authors and their works. But I kind of want to shy away from the craze brought by the fame of writers who have established their names in the writing industry. The question then is, how can I come across with the most unique and interesting stories, in addition to surfing the internet and going to book stores?

Hi Nikki! I think that reading in a foreign language is a great way to make progress! With every new language that I learn, I discover anew the joy of reading! What's great for me it's that when you are learning a language, nearly every book is interesting, because every time you discover new vocabulary and ways of speaking. So you have much more fun than you would have while reading the same thing in your mother tongue :) I started reading a lot in German about a year ago and I read everything that I can find, from free newspaper to professional literature from my areas of interest. I often use the "book-crossing" stations: places where people leave books that they already read to share and exchange with other people. It's free. Maybe you can find such places in your country. I use libraries too, and buy books on flea markets (they are very cheap).

When choosing the book to read, I would recommend just paging through it, reading the description, starting reading a few pages and deciding if that fragment made you keen to read the rest. I would also recommend not limiting yourself to fiction. You can find literature on any subject that intrests you.

Thanks for the reply Lokus. These ideas you gave are really fun. I'll try your suggestions one of these days. Thanks!

Is there a library near you with a foreign books section? That way you can try before you buy! Don't read a book just because it's famous, read it because it sounds interesting to you. Recently I gave up reading a really well-known book. It just wasn't for me.
