Good for the country (I think) but I have been in Russia last year and this year as well and to be honest I didn't feel excitement from the people about the world cup. I have seen a lot of souvenirs in shop but people and TV in general were not talking about it at all to my taste, because it's a big event I thought it'd be something really promoted there. Well, being from Brazil (known for its passion for soccer) and having lived the era of the world cup in 2014, I can't say that Russians are soccer people or that they're looking forward to the event.
