I read all these expressions and their explanations. But it is again interesting that native English speakers often use them or not? If you often use them, in what cases do you use them? Share your experience, please. Thank you.

Actually, these are all non-polite, wisecracking, ways to tell someone to stop talking. Number seven is funny. I've never heard it before. It sounds British to me.

I agree with @Truman; they are all rude. Better, more polite are "hush", "silence", or the far more common "be quiet". Inevitably, they are all commands and since nobody likes being ordered you will cause, more or less, offence.

A lot of these are British and still pretty rude tbh. The only polite way I guess is to say 'please stop talking', 'please be quiet'

Hi Leyla,

Most of those expressions are either not used or not exactly correct. Also, because they're colloquial, they're not really so polite! I'd sooner say these:

1. Button your lip.

2. Zip it.

3. Put a cork in it. (Same as "sock")

5. "Simmer down" means calm down.

6. "Pipe down" means "stop making so much noise" or "stop complaining".

7. Pull your head in. (Very common in Australia... but this really means "stop acting so arrogantly".)
