I want to quit smoking: shoot me with your best advices... Tobacco is just a big waste of health and money and I'm really tired of being dependent on it.
Dear Italki community, what are you suggestions? how do i start and what do i need to expect? I know that the pharma-market offers a full range of products (such as nicotine pills, nicotine plaster, ecc) designed to help you going through the first stage of the process, when your nicotine need is higher than ever, but I would like to "accept the challenge" by my own...any personal and meaning experience is welcome

I smoked for many years and I tried all the methods of quitting.

I have not had a cigarette for the last 9 months... and I don't want one now (although once a day I think about having one).

I was able to quit = to stop (even though I wanted to continue = I did not want to stop).

I stopped because I made a rule.
I was not allowed to smoke.
If I could discipline myself (control myself/follow the rule) then I would be successful.

I have followed the rule for 9 months.

Other people don't smoke, they don't need it. they have a good life without it ... and so can I .... and so can you ... good luck

Riccardo,  each cigarette shortens your life by about 14 minutes. Are you sure you have another life? On top of that, has somebody said you, that you smell like hell after you smoke this shit? Not yet? Believe me, you do.

If this is still not enough for you to give your habbit up, keep killing yourself.

What do you like more than cigarettes?

Try keeping yourself busy so you don't think about smoking so much. And chew gum everytime you get the urge to smoke!

Throw away all of them and never buy them again, the quickest way. Just quit smoking.
Also, drink a lot of water and eat healthy and go outside more to recover!
If it gets hard, take a book to read or go for a run.
All the best luck!
