Vous vs Tu in the home How do parents and their kids address one another? Do kids refer to their parents as vous or tu? How about when the kids a grown up. And I'm assuming parents always refer to their kids as tu. Merci.

You use " vous " for speak both in the same time.  you can use " vous " for speak to one of them but its your parent so you have To use " tu"
Vous = pluriel ou formel
Tu = singulier ou familier

Hi Garrett,

So as Wally explained it, almost everyone says "tu", in both ways, parents to children and children to parents. It used to be different until like a century ago where in the wealthiest families parents and children would say "vous" to one another as a form of respect. Nowadays, you might still find children saying "vous" but it would probably be more to talk to their grandparents not their parents.

I hope it made it clearer for you. :)
