In my local town it depends how young people are, it seems that part of growing up and "becoming a man" means you have to curse a lot.  I assume it is the hormones.  Luckily that calms down as they age, so, hearing a man over 30 swear (except for good reason) is still not common.  Cursing is an arrestable offence. https://www.askthe.police.uk/content/Q675.htm

I don’t hear it in cities or parks that much, not that I can think of. But, it’s kind of a generational thing here, in the US. When I was younger, like in the 1970s and 1980s, people only used curse words privately. Guys who had been in the military seemed to use them more. Nowadays you hear them all the time used on internet podcasts by young people in their 20s and early 30s, like it means nothing. Just normal intelligent speech. They have to use a curse word at least once in every sentence it seems. And these guys think they are sounding smart in talking like this. It’s ridiculous. They call themselves „news commentators“ and have YouTube sites and just use all the old curse words no one ever said before in my generation. And they think it‘s fine. It’s really just strange. 

You may hear them sometimes but it isn't that common if it's loud enough to everybody hear. Young people use them normally when talking with each other, but it isn't mean to sound really loud to everybody hear. In the traffic all the time.

I cannot see why people have to use curse words to insult some others in the public. There should be alternative ways to communicate. Bill is right, people over 30 rarely use filthy words to express their feelings, comparatively, teenagers are liable to use curse words to communicate with their peers so as to vent their anger, which is often happening during the embarrassing age.
