I tried to search the Discussions to see previous posts about this but couldn't find the Search feature.
In July I will take the TestDaF. My current German level is a bit all over the place as I've been self-studying for the past year. I will be taking a placement test at a language school in 2 weeks to see if I can get into their TestDaF Vorbereitungskurs as I have some friends who have taken the course and it's really helpful. At this point I know my German is not good enough for the course so I'm really intensively studying.
My question: does anyone have tips on how to improve my writing skills? With listening and reading I'm decent, speaking I'm okay, but writing is atrocious (hence this is in English). Does anyone have tips for how to improve my writing skills quickly? I'm NOT looking for something 'easy' as I know this is hard work and I am putting in the time/effort. I can write, just slowly and with some grammar checks, so I guess I'm just looking to see if anyone has any tips on how to start/what kinds of exercises might help. As of now I'm doing a lot of dictation as well as writing short responses to prompts/topics that I will likely see on the placement test or TestDaF (positives/negatives, graph responses, etc...) but I rely way too much on dictionaries/Google.
Any help for anything with the TestDaF is welcome! Danke! :)

Du solltest viel und regelmäßig deutsche Texte lesen. Suche Dir Bücher heraus zu Themen, die Dich interessieren. Verfolge das Zeitgeschehen in deutschen Zeitungen und/oder Zeitschriften. Je mehr Du liest desto besser. Dies wird nicht nur Deiner Fähigkeit zum Verfassen von Texten helfen.

Ich schlage vor, dass Du auf zwei verschiedenen Wegen an der Verbesserung Deiner Fähigkeit, Deutsch zu schreiben, arbeitest.
Weg I
Du findest reichlich Übungsmaterial und -aufgaben im Internet, wenn Du nach den Stichworten „DaF Textproduktion“ oder „DaF Schriftlicher Ausdruck“ suchst. So zum Beispiel hier: https://www.deutsch-portal.com/Schreiben.html. Die Übungsblätter von Seagull (http://seagull-tandem.eu/german/) sind zwar vor allem für die Tandem-Arbeit gedacht, doch gibt es am Schluss in der Regel auch immer eine Aufgabe zum Verfassen eines deutschen Textes. Wenn Du bei Google suchst, findest Du sicherlich noch viele weitere, kostenlose Aufgaben. Natürlich gibt es auch in den Büchern zur TestDaF-Prüfungsvorbereitung viele Aufgaben zum Schreiben.

Generell kann ich Dir den Tipp geben, viel und regelmäßig zu Üben. Bearbeite regelmäßig Übungsaufgaben und lass sie von Deinem Tandempartner / Sprachlehrer überprüfen. Du kannst Deinen Text natürlich auch im italki Notizbuch posten und dort um Korrektur bitten.

please allow me auf deinen Zug aufzuspringen, I don't intend to hijack it. I wonder whether one of the other German tests such as DSH, telc and so forth is very similar in the writing department. Can somebody answer this one? My girlfriend has been preparing a lot for the TestDaF and is taking it again this year and has virtually all the practice material on the market, so she is running out of exercises.
