"How did you get your first name?" - My favorite icebreaker question.

I always ask my students this question when we first meet.

I love hearing the stories behind the names.

How did you get your first name? What does it mean?

What's your story?

"My father was a cook/baker at Maryknoll Seminary in Ossining, New York.

He said the hardest working person in that kitchen while he worked there

was the dishwasher. His name was "Ray".

So I was named after a hardworking dishwasher!

I always wanted to find out who this guy was."

My name is Oksana. I have a brother, his name is Aleksey. He is older.

And my father's name is Aleksandr.

Everything is simple. My mother wanted our names are tune with each other. Oksana Aleksandrovna and Aleksey Aleksandrovich. Ks-ks.

It sounds like a call for a cat. Funny )

My name is Fibrya. It comes from February, because I was born in this month.

But since too many parents also inspired by the month of their kids were born,

I have five classmates who had similar name with me. They are Febi, Febby, Fibbi, Febrian.

So instead of let our names sounds like irregular verbs 123, my friends decided to make new nicknames for us.

And they call me Ebi. Means dried shrimp in Indonesia. lol.

But I'm okay with that, because Ebi is a common and generic name in Indonesia.
