インターネットは、PC市場における企業の力関係を変えるはずだ。A社やB社などのベンダーは、既に自社製のハードウェアが生み出すオンライン収入の一部を手にしようと機会を伺っている。キーボードを設計し直して、提携企業のWebサイトに素早くアクセスする機能を加えたことに対する見返りというわけだ。企業のエグゼクティブは、一般消費者向けの売上高のうち、インターネットおよび関連ビジネスが占める比率は最大25％に達するのではないかと考えている。いずれは、PCがインターネット・サービスにセットされ、ただ同然で配布されることも考えられる。しかし、当社のアナリストBen Smithは、こうした販売手法は意味をなさないと考えている。彼の指摘は、次の通りである：（1）今日のインターネット関連の企業提携が、いつまでも存続するとは限らない。（2）携帯電話とワイヤレス・サービスの関係とは異なり、PCとインターネットはお互いに独立したサービスである。（3）いまだにインターネット・サービスよりPCの方が高価なため、電話機がただ同然で投げ売りされる電話の市場とは事情が異なる。

The Internet is likely to change the power relations of corporations in the PC market.

Vendors like A Corporation and B Corporation are already aware of the opportunity that they can obtain some of the online income generated by their own hardware. They see a return by adding a function to quickly access an affiliated company's website by redesigning the keyboard. Corporate executives believe that generally, the ratio which the Internet and related businesses account for is at most 25% of the consumer sales made. It’s likely that eventually, the PC will be distributed along with Internet services as a set. But our analyst Ben Smith believes that this kind of sales method doesn’t make much sense. He pointed out a few things regarding this method: (1) Today’s Internet related business relations won’t necessarily last forever. (2) Differing from the Mobile and Wireless Services, the PC and Internet are two distinct and separate products. (3) Because the PC is still more expensive than an Internet service, the circumstances differ from the market where Mobiles are just sold out as a commodity similar to an Internet service.

At any rate, if Information Appliances become widespread within the consumer market, it is no mistake to say that it will negatively impact the PC sales in the long run. Just like the PC stole the Mainframe and Minicomputer market, the Information Appliance market will slow down the growth of the PC market. Generally, Appliances aren't products that can cover the current PC's numerous functionalities. Although that’s not how it is, various new applications are being created in succession for Appliance use. X company predicts that the Information Appliance market growth rate will reach 96% per year while at the same time the PC market growth rate in the US in 2002 is 12% per year. The Information Appliance sales volume is predicted to exceed the PC's in the consumer market by 2002, and that by the year 2005, the cumulative number of the Appliance shipments will also dominate the PC’s. As the distribution of the Appliances grows, various new applications will also be developed.

しかし英語と同程度のスペース、改行を入れないと、なかなか読みにくいです。

「キーボードを設計しなおして、提携企業のWebサイトに素早くアクセスする機能を加えたことに対する見返りというわけだ」

見返りは少し意味が違うと思います。

～～の見返りに、は、若干、マイナスの意味があります。しょうがなく、というか。

「私は痩せる見返りに、おいしい食事をあきらめた」のようにです。
そういった機能を付けた見返りに、●●の機能が失われた、であれば、あっています。

そのため、　return は、報酬、のほうが近いかもしれません。
