Local proverbs are popular in my home country .Filipino proverbs, or salawikain, echo the values of the Philippines. They have actually  been retold and passed down from one generation to another. The lessons and values the proverbs have imparted to us still hold true to this day.

         One example is,  

"Hangga't makitid ang kumot, matutong mamaluktot"  (While the blanket is short, learn how to bend.) 

This means, if your blanket is too short to cover you completely with your legs straight, bend them so that you fit. In other words, learn how to adapt to your environment and be satisfied with what you have. If you have less in life, learn to be frugal until you come to the point when you can spare some money for a little bit of luxury.

Thanks. It means a lot. I wanna be surrounded by those who have similar thoughts, so I just will keep doing what I think is right, behaving as I really wanna do so that people around me know who I really am.

Another example;

武士は食わねど高楊枝（Bushi ha kuwanedo takayouzi）

meaning:  Samurai stays stately even when he is hungry.

Samurais, or high-status people should stay stately and gentle if they have troubles.
