I want to use my own kanji characters that have the same reading

Hi, Can I use my own kanji characters that have the same pronounciation/reading to make a word have a personal meaning even though that's not how a word is commonly written with?  I can give an example:

I want to use the kanji 子 ('ko' reading) instead of the 小 when saying "Kotori" ?
