Measha
your experience with italki

Hello,

I would love to hear experiences you've had with italki how fast you've learned a new language using this app.  How often you take classes on here to make your language journey successful.  is once a week good or twice a week?

Overall i think the site is good. The discussion area is a bit gash from time to time but the notebook feature is really good for improving your writing. I have a chinese teacher who was recommended to me by a friend . She is an amazing teacher and the prices i find are a lot cheaper than face to face teachers. Sadly as i am travelling and trying to save for my next destination otherwise i would be taking 3-4 lessons a week.

Hi Measha

I found two lessons a week very good but hard to juggle when I had overtime and not enough time to study everything. So one lesson is good too, but slower. I find it hard sometimes to hear words clearly enough to differentiate them, in order to spell them, but that is Russian, whereas your Spanish would be far easier in this regard. I need a partner to write new words on the left hand side of the screen in Skype, or send me the powerpoint file after the lesson, that way I have a list of the new words, how they are spelled and usually they are in a sentence, so grammar/gender is learned as well.

I find studying with books essential, as a background to Italki. Italki is good for speaking confidence and articulation, good for listening and comprehension, but not as good for teaching, so for that I use a textbook and use the teacher for vocal work. Mostly.

But my confidence, my spoken and listening skills are improving enormously.

In addition to all other comments I would like to say that the discussion board isn’t gash at all (thank you Chris I learned a new word). I improved my English, writing posts.

I hope that more discussions will be opened in other languages like Spanish and Arabic.

I think it's best to take class at least once a week to maintain your skills. Ideally two if possible. I personally prefer having a lesson once a week because sometimes it takes me a while to pick up new words and expressions. But, in the end it really depends on your schedule and how much disposable income you got.

Even when you don't have class, it's recommended that you practice at least a few hours a week on your own. This includes, writing notebook entries, reading the news, listening to podcasts, watching YouTube videos and talking to language partners.

I take classes once or twice a week as well as doing a language exchanges with a few people and I'm also in at least one group chat with people trying to learn English just kind of helping them out I really like italki it's a nice place to meet people who have an interest in learning language and to be able to increase your skill in whatever language you're learning that being said it is true that there are occasionally some crazy people on the site you occasionally get some crazy messages or you meet somebody that turns out to be a crazy person haha but other than that it's normally pretty great
