What's the difference between the terms school and academy, mainly in the US? Hello everybody, I'd like to know what the difference between the terms school and academy are, mainly in the US, I understand terms are used different in every country. Thanks in advance.

School is used most commonly meaning anything below university level.

Academy usually refers to a school with Academy in the title. This is true for 'dance academy', or 'film academy'
