Should children under 6 play video games?
I have a 5-year-old son. He sometimes plays Nintendo DS, which my husband bought long time ago. Once he started using it, he seemed to get addicted to it and it became hard for him to stop using it. In order to avoid his long-hour use, we regulate the time he can play it. However, as he secretly tries to use it for a long time, we are considering whether we should abandon it or not. There are pros and cons of using video games including mobile phone applications especially for younger generations. I would like to hear your opinions!

Well, it depends on the game and the function of the game. Overall, it my be better to download some educational game-type apps on a tablet or your phone for him to play. I know a lot of people think that video games have no redeeming qualities, but they do improve problem solving skills, multitasking, eye-hand coordination, and memory. Video games do need to be used in moderation. Maybe set up a system where he can earn game time for completing specific tasks. If he is seeking it out when he shouldn't then he finds it highly reinforcing. You can use that as motivation to complete homework or chores.

Interesting comments. One thing is important. We are not better than children! We should not to use social media so actively and we have lots of bad habits. So it is important to analyze our lifestyle  firstly and after we can think what would be good our children. I wrote it in general. Somebody wrote finding the balance. My personal opinion is that if a kid wants to play with video games it is not a problem. But children's brain are really impressive and it would be a huge failure to use those brains only video games. Outdoor activities are really much better. Children will have more "normal" impact in this way.

Personally, I don't think children should play video games until maybe, 8 years old? It affects their health and communication skills greatly. I prefer seeing young children playing outside :)

Outdoor activities and sports are much healthier.  In addition, video game addiction may reveal a personality which is more prone to addictive behavior in general, which is something that might not be good.
