Common problems encountered by IELTS students

1. Speaking Anxiety

A lot of students feel anxious before they even speak to someone. They feel anxious during their presentations, debates, interviews and so on.

A good tip is to do breathing exercises prior to speaking. When you are nervous, it is important to breathe deeply. This method actually calms your heart. This is a useful tip especially for students who are taking the IELTS and TOEFL test.

Another tip is to do a short walk prior to your speaking test or performance. Walking has a calming effect similar to breathing exercises.

2.  Time management

If you want to see a remarkable improvement with your speaking skills, it is very important to find the time to study. Now, this is easier said than done especially if you have to work or study.  It is important to organize your schedule. If you have time to study a new word or two while you are riding a bus to work, then that makes a difference. Some students take the IELTS without enough preparation and the end result is a low band score.

I have some difficulties in expanding my vocabulary. It is really hard to me to get to know new and useful words. I am really struggling with it.

And like you mentioned, I also have problems with speaking anxiety. I don't know why, but when I need to speak with someone I simply panic, specially if this person is a native English speaker.

@Heverton Silva  A good way to expand your vocabulary is to try out a variety of methods and find what works for you. When I was studying English as a child, I found that watching English movies and TV series helps me improve both my listening and vocabulary. It is also important to be consistent. You have to set a certain time in your schedule for you to learn new words or study with flexibility. There are many videos on Youtube that talk about tips and also apps on Google Play. When you learn words, you need to use them right away or as soon as you can so that you can remember them better. Repetition is quite important. The more you use words, the more you remember them. I also suggest answering crossword puzzles, describing pictures using adjectives and the list goes on and on. The resources are abundant and also do not forget to practice with a teacher.👌😎😊
