Fluency in Chinese Hello everybody! Those people who've been studying Chinese, or who actually speak Chinese language, what do you think, what time does a person need to get to a confident conversational level? Let's say, spending 1-2 hours a day.

I think 1 hour is enough ,but the problem is to insist on.

Actually I recommend you to practice as soon as you can make sensible sentence in Chinese, but if you want to go anywhere with the conversation, maybe after you have learned about 500 words or so? Just so you can cover the basic everyday vocabularies.
I think the time spent on the language is not that important, but rather to be consistent about it.

Maybe 2 is better. And if you cannot insis on it everyday, you'd better say it more and more when you have free time to practice it.

The more you do, the quicker you will improve, and the less you will forget. I probably spent 3-5 hours a day on Chinese during my first two years of study, and that was plenty for me to be confident speaking to people. Try to do as much as can. Good luck!

If let`s say 1-2 hours/day, a few months later you could start and understand basic conversation, and once you are learning in a suitable and right way, that will increase your interest as well as passion for insisting on. Then all you need to do is to keep involving new knowledge/local expression/structure (including cases that same words but different meaning)..,setting your goal in a certain period and  making pregress gradually

Pay attention to foundation (tones, pronunciation of Pinyin, interest of Chinese Characters) when you start, will helps a lot to build your confidence and make the following learning much easier~ Good Luck~
