Teaching Foreign Languages At Your School Hello! 
What was the quality of teaching foreign languages at your primary, secondary and high school? What skills did teachers try to develop and what they failed to do? I mean, what were you taught better - speaking, reading, listening or writing? Which foreign language did you learn at school?

I was born and raised in the US. In primary school we did not learn another language other than our own. In secondary school we did a sampling in 7th grade of the different language that we could then chose from to take classes of in High school. Our choices were French, German, Italian and Spanish. The majority of my friends took Spanish. I chose French. In 8th grade through Junior year I took a French class. It was a lot of fun. My teachers were great! In the US to be a teacher in a public school you need certain qualifications. You need a teaching certificate, which usually requires a college degree of some sort and to pass certain tests. You also need to have a background check.

If it’s a part time job at school ,I think a bachelor degree with English relatively is enough. When it comes to a full-time job , the certificate of teacher is necessary. It took much effort to apply to get into a school in my country.

Hello!
I think it was somewhat poor. It's no secret that governmental schools' free education is this way, here in Egypt. English is the 1st foreign language being taught here since the elementary stage. For the 2nd foreign language, we get to choose, and I chose French, and we only learn it for the last 2 years during the secondary stage.

I think what Egyptian teachers of foreign languages lack the most is the correct pronunciation.

My English now is completely different than that when I finished secondary school. I can say I'm a self-taught English speaker as I relied on myself since, through exposing myself to the western culture i.e movies, songs, articles, etc.
I think English conversation is my weakest language skill as I never get the chance to practice it here for Arabic is our mother tongue and there are very few people who can speak English fluently.
