Is English difficult to learn? Why? What's Different of three sentences:
1. " when I arrived home, John was washing the car"
2. " when I arrived home, John had been washing the car"
3. " when I arrived home, John had washed the car"

Thanks for your explaning. In the second sentence, is that mean: John hadn't finished his car washing, he will continue to wash?
