文脈がないので本当の意味を当てるかどうかわからないですけど、読むと誰かは誰かに待たせそうですけど待たせたくないという意味だと思います。例えば、今日は仕事があるので会社に行かなければならないけど、そのうちに友達から大事なものが配達される予定でもらうために誰か家にいなければならない。だから、隣人に友達を待ってくれないって頼んだ。でも何かあったから友達はものすごく遅くなった。隣人が待ってるって聞いた後、友達は気がとどめて家に誰かいなければないのを待たせたくないからもう隣人が待たなくてもいいよ、代わりに会社に来るよという感じです。

I don't have the exact sentence context, but it sounds like you are delivering something to someone, so they had another person wait on you to receive the item. You're very late and you feel bad about making the other person wait, so you tell them you'll deliver it at a different time or find another way to get it to them because you don't want them to have to have someone waiting for you for so long.
