Great question! The present perfect tense is used to describe actions or situations in the past which have now finished. For example:


She has been hiking on this trail before.

I have eaten at this restaurant in the past.


Usually, the present perfect tense uses 'have' or 'has' with the past participle, so that's usually a dead giveaway. Hope that helps!
