Etymology or the words' time travel.
I am fascinated by the origin of the words, their original place of birth their primary meaning and how they have travelled and evolved with time.
Some examples like:
"Hazard", or chance coming from Arabic meaning a game of dice.
"kǒu" the measure word for a family member in Chinese meaning "a mouth" ...to feed obviously :)
In Italian "per combinazione" in Italian means "by chance" which, if you think about it is the most correct way to describe "chance" as it is a consequence of a chain of events.
And so on.
Please share the ones that make you smile no matter what language.
