With worker placement games, you have a limited number of "workers" with which you must make decisions on how they are used throughout the turn. Will you tell them to build a structure, or will you tell them to earn money? The choices are generally limited, so if I choose one action, it prevents another player from choosing it. However, once you choose an action, the next player chooses an action. So, you must prioritize which actions are most valuable to you, because you cannot do them all
While the decisions may change based on the game, the idea is the same. Prioritizing choices to try to win. Sometimes the choices you make are not so much to help yourself, but rather to stop someone else from being able to accomplish that action.
