It's a beautifully crafted novel. Julian Barnes is one of our finest living writers.

There's also a very sensitively made film of the book. Definitely worth seeing.

Very intimately observed with a lonely ending. What did you think?

Haven’t watched the movie... but I totally agree Barnes is one of the greatest living writers... I also enjoyed “The Noise of Time.”

Daniel.... I’m glad I’ve found someone here who likes it... it’s very intense. I see a very close association with the story of Oedipus where he digs in and the more he digs the more horrendous things he comes up with about himself and how the damage he has caused is so vast that it hasn’t spared anyone. I started reading at 8 in the evening and finished it at 4:26 (I remember the exact time) in the morning. It is such a magnificent story.
