Some of my favorite English singers / bands:

Air Supply
Oingo Boingo
George Michael / Wham!
Garth Brooks
Lionel Richie
The Cars
Bellamy Brothers
Billy Joel
Alice Cooper
Depeche Mode
Yaz / Yazoo
Laura Branigan
David Bowie
Weird Al Yankovic
Duran Duran
Peter Cetera
Hall & Oates
Huey Lewis & The News
The Police / Sting

This list only covers Pop / Rock with artists from the 80's. It doesn't cover Heavy Metal or Religious groups. Falco and Nena were international artists who put out specific English albums.

I have to admit that I really love the 60s and 70s music. Why? It's genuine, great lyrics, more raw, and often dancy.
Say: Bob Dylan the Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, the Eagles, the Beach Boys, the Steve Miller Band, the Kinks, James Taylor, JJ Cale, Abba, R.E.M.,Supertramp, Queen, Nina Simone, Louis Armstrong, Ben E. King, Eric Clapton, Ray Charles, Van Morrisson, David Bowie, and some of the rock'n'roll classics like Elvis, Little Richard, Bill Hayley.. to name but a few...
Some of the 80s stuff is pretty cool too like the Police, Dire Straits, U2, Soft Cell, Madness, Tracy Chapman, Suzanne Vega, The Pogues....
I also like some of the 90s and more modern stuff too, but I'd still definitely go for 60s and 70s as my all time favs!

Each era has it's own beauty. Music is something subjective. It's the personal taste of music that drives you to like or hate any piece. Like in this video
You can see that along the history you can really like some and hate others which seems the opposite to some other people. So, it depends mainly on what you really like. Another thing is listening to the same piece more than once can actually change your personal taste to any kind of music, because gradually your mind start to find reasons to like what you listen to.

I think the 1960's has the best music of any decade. I am a musician myself and I love music of many different styles/genres/eras, but overall, for *every genre of music, I think the 1960's gave us the best.

Jazz, Rock, Pop, R&B, Soul, Funk, Blues..

Social and political connections to the music - music that people felt embodied their own spirits and their world views, their hopes and dreams. Music that served a purpose both of entertainment and some kind of greater desire. Music created during or around the same time as the Civil Rights era, whether or not it is directly linked to that, has an intensity and an energy not found in other generations.

Since I have many songs from the 1980s forever etched into my mind, I will go with that decade.

One of my younger friends: "But those songs were all about sex."
Me: "No, that is not true."
Him: "Ok, name one."
Me: "Well, there's, uh, and um. Well, how about, um let's see..."
Him: "Well, I'm waiting."
Me: "There's ...Ok, you win. The songs revolved around sex."
