How important is the Russian language?
Pretty important, for a few reasons:
- It’s one of the 6 UN languages. Along with English, French, Spanish, Arabic and Mandarin.
- It’s an official language in 6 official countries in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Quite useful to know it if you live or work in that region.
- It’s spoken by 260 million people, including 150 million native speakers. That makes it the 8th most spoken language in the world.
- There are more and more Russian tourists going on holiday overseas. I live in Thailand, and it’s not uncommon to see restaurants and hotels where everything is written in Russian. Russian tourists are good money here.
