How important is the Russian language?
Pretty important, for a few reasons:
  1. It’s one of the 6 UN languages. Along with English, French, Spanish, Arabic and Mandarin.
  2. It’s an official language in 6 official countries in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Quite useful to know it if you live or work in that region.
  3. It’s spoken by 260 million people, including 150 million native speakers. That makes it the 8th most spoken language in the world.
  4. There are more and more Russian tourists going on holiday overseas. I live in Thailand, and it’s not uncommon to see restaurants and hotels where everything is written in Russian. Russian tourists are good money here.
