"Severity" describes the level of badness (intensity) of a situation. For example:

The virus was not severe so they were able to save him.
The severity of the virus was too great for him to recover.
The severity of coronavirus has decreased/increased.
The fire was so severe that it burnt down the entire city.
The plane had a sever computer failure causing it to crash.

Acuteness wouldn't be used here.

you can say
severity, fatalness, infectiousness, ferocity, virulence.
but I think severity is the best daily used word. The medical and science professions might say other words.
like pathogenicity or virulence.
virulence would be describing a virus although laymen use if for other things.
