What's your experience of British food?
There are many delicious traditional meals for example roast dinner, cottage pie, fish pie, vegetable and many kinds of soups and stews, ploughman's unch, fresh salads with cheese and cold meats, smoked salmon... And of course there are vegetarian options too like cauliflower cheese, Glamorgan Sausages, Bubble and Squeek, lentil soup, veggie burgers....

Also there are amazing desserts like homemade English trifle; cheesecake; lemon merengue pie; sticky toffee pudding; Eton Mess; fruit pies; fruit crumbles; a wide range of biscuits and cakes like fruit cake, eccles cakes, scones, shortbreads; then there's a whole assortment of homemade jams and marmalade....

There are some meals which are very typical like fish and chips, and English breakfast. I would say these depend on how they are made as they have a tendency to be very greasy, but if made with care they can be special too on occasions.

We are also lucky to have had the influence of international cuisine and so we can taste many dishes like chicken Tikka Massala and a wide selection of curries; Italian food; fajitas; Thai and Japanese food to name but a few ...

There are some really good programmes on TV /Utube/online recipes from famous chefs like Jamie Oliver, Nigel Slater, Delia Smith (still a classic), Nigela Lawson, Anna Jones, Anthony Bourdain and many more, where you can get inspiration and ideas.

In my opinion, it seems like British food gets bad press worldwide, but personally I have always eaten fresh and healthy homemade meals wherever possible.

Thank you, Mrs Tinnu!
Exactly, I was only referring to the strong black tea. It's excellent for concentration, to reduce blood pressure, and contains a rich antioxidant composition.
Moreover, the distinction between sauce and meal is very interesting because in Brazil you can have only a sauce - like bean soup for instance (that's my favorite!).

Hi Angelo,
Good to hear from you.
A typical English breakfast is traditionally any combination of: bacon, eggs, baked beans, fried tomato, toast, fried mushooms, potato hash, black pudding.....
English breakfast tea is a type of strong black tea.
Gravy isn't a meal, it's a sauce that can be used to accompany a meal for example with a roast dinner or other meals that need a sauce.
Depending on the recipe you follow there are many different ways to make gravy For example you can make one out of the juices from the meat you cook combined with herbs like rosemary, sage and thyme, salt, pepper, onion and garlic... there are also vegetarian options of course using juice from cooking the vegetables for example ....

Very interesting indeed! I always wanted to try English trifle. I appreciate the English breakfast tea, but I can't take it daily because of weight loss. It is gravy a traditional meal of the UK?
