Unfortunately, there are plenty of scammers here.

They often pose as American soldiers deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq or UN doctors. They often have very generic English names, but write in an awkward manner. This problem has been discussed repeatedly in the forum:

The best is to not give out your contact details unless you’re sure that the person is trustworthy. If you suspect that the user is a scammer: block and report.

It happens on every kind of social media platform. Usually the accounts disappear because somebody reported them to Italki for being scams. Sometimes if it is a language platform they focus on people who don't speak English well so you won't recognize that they aren't native speakers. Sometimes it can be frustrating, but it is worth it to find a native partner.

Yep. That's such a waste of time, and it's nearly impossible for me to find serious people who doesn't want to marry you after a short conversation. That's a platform to learn languages.😧

Im here since 2018 and i talked to many people since.

From my experience they always "disappear" - they are no longer active.

Also i sometimes text them, what they do is they read my messages and dont reply.

I dont know why but it is what it is , average people are like that
