Este, esta, esto: this
"Este" is masculine. For example,
· Este auto = this car /Este auto es rápido (this car is fast)
· Este teléfono = this phone /Este teléfono es nuevo (this phone is new)
· Este vaso = the glass /Este vaso es pequeño (this glass is small)
"Esta" is feminine. For example,
· Esta manzana = this apple /Esta manzana es deliciosa (this apple is delicious)
("este" and "esta" can also be used as "this one").
· Esta ventana = this window / esta ventana es grande ( this window is big)
· Esta casa = this house / esta casa es hermosa (this house is beautiful)
· Esta mesa = this table / esta mesa es roja (this table is red)
"Esto" is neuter.
It is used when you don't know the gender or it's not really important. For example, "¿Qué es esto?" "Esto es una manzana". "Quiero esto" = "I want this".
