If you refer to things like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram,... indefinitely. I deleted my FB account a few years ago, haven't used social media in the stricter sense since Google shut down Google+...

I count italki as social media. Many people come here to meet other people. Italki has the similar effects like other social media websites: people get addicted, waste a lot of time here, have fun together, learn new things, argue, bully, have dramatic meltdowns... There are good people here but also spammers and scammers. It's not much different to other social media websites.

I either use it everyday or deactivate the account - as long as it’s not installed on my phone, I can live in a social media-free way without too much trouble.

Social media definitely has both pros and cons, but we all sometimes have this feeling that we live with far too much news and far too many noises and are constantly surrounded by superficial relationships, don’t we! That said, I haven’t deleted any of the apps for more than a year now - so kudos to your friend! What do you think of social media in general?

Last time when I visited China, I didn’t use social media for a month. Simply because Western social media are all blocked in China.
