Background: native English speaker, grew up in the United States. I also speak Chinese but I don't write / read it.

Spanish: Currently B2-C1. I understand almost all of the news in Spanish.

Portuguese: Currently about B1. I can express myself during daily interactions with friends, but not academic / formal topics.

Italian: currently about A2. I started a month ago, so I still can't do anything practical yet haha

I tried French for 2 months and Russian for one month, but I ended up quitting both of them. I just didn't feel an emotional connection to either language.

Russian was the hardest among the languages that I've tried. (Chinese doesn't count because it was "given by default" to me by my parents)

I learned English the first time and am still learning it after 50 years (ask my teenager)! I also consider technical English (I'm an engineer) as a separate form of communication.

As far as foreign languages, I'm working on learning Spanish and currently I am at an intermediate level.

Spanish would be my only possible answer to which is hardest, but I don't find it that daunting, it just takes practice. Sometimes the difference between hard/not hard is whether or not you enjoy the ride!
