I have been studying it for about a year now.
I think the approach that you choose is a personal matter.
I have opinions about what has worked for me, but maybe something different would be better for you.

To quote Richard Feynman:
“Study hard what interests you the most in the most undisciplined, irreverent and original manner possible.”

You can learn the alphabet in 3 days or so. Don't be intimidated by the alphabet.

Netflix has some great Russian TV shows. Use these to get your ears tuned to the sounds of the language.
I recommend
- The Sniffer
- Method
- Sparta
- Silver Spoon

I rewatch the series' with a notebook in my lap and I write down 2 things during each episode.
- Words I want to look up later
- slash marks for every word that I recognize based on hearing it

A good flashcard software is Anki SRS, and it is free. Combine that with forvo.com for audio files of each word you put in a flash card.
Use this to learn hundreds of common nouns easily.

How you choose to approach grammar depends a lot on your personality. If you are the type of person who enjoys puzzles, then dive in to the case system.
If it seems overwhelming at first, then save it for later.

The book "Fluent Forever" by Gabriel Wyner is the best approach to a flash-card system I think. Check it out. It helped me learn Spanish as well.

Hi Charles! I have been trying to learn Russian through some authentic listening materials and full exposure to language.
There are two really good podcasts

Middle of Nowhere (Rather new but interesting topic, good vocab and worksheets also FREE) The presenter is currently making new episodes come out every week

Russian with Max (slower speech and a lot of content to go through)
<a href="https://www.russianwithmax.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://www.russianwithmax.com/</a>;

New Deaf Club - series with subtitles very helpful (make sure to use Russian VPN)

Have a look and let me know what you think

Hi!
At first you should understand why you want and need to learn Russian. Because for every purpose there should be a special and a bit different program of studies. But in general if you want to learn the Russian language, it is really good to have a good teacher who can recommend you suitable books and offer interesting materials. As well you can watch videos, play language games, study and sing songs, participate in language marathon...
But first of all you need a good teacher and a good book. Because if you have only a good book, do exercises and there appear some questions or you made some mistakes...there definitely should someone who can explain you your mistakes and help to go in the right direction.
