Hi Spanish Teachers, I have a suggestion for your profile videos
I am new student from USA, learning Spanish. My suggestion: if you want to impress and attract a new student - speak very clearly, SLOWLY (by slowly, I mean a speed at which a beginner student can understand what you are saying - not retarded slow speed), and loudly on your introduction video. A new student wants to have a teacher that they can easily understand. We are not fluent Spanish speakers. We are beginners. Good luck with your teaching. Floyd

Earl I don´t agree with you , even for a begginer level we should aim to listen the language at a normal speed otherwise it would sound not natural and incorrect.

Don´t be lazy boy and make the effort ; )

Not all teachers target beginners. A teacher might intentionally gear their profile towards more advanced students.

Additionally, there’s a point where the language is slowed down to a degree that’s detrimental to learning. If each word is spoken separately in a staccato manner, it prevents the listener from picking up how words flow into each other. I haven’t come across a teacher who speaks particularly fast. If you don’t understand what they’re saying, then you simply don’t understand it.

The intro video is meant to demonstrate the teacher’s style. If the teacher speaks too fast for you and doesn’t use English, that might be a sign that they’re not right for you.

When I see videos like the one you describe, I sigh, stop watching, and decide the teacher isn't for me.

That was true even when I was a beginner in Spanish. It's true in other languages.

Beginner or not, I want to hear the language as it is spoken at its normal pace and rhythm with natural fluctuations in volume. I find it unnatural and unhelpful when a teacher speaks extremely slowly and loudly. That's not going to help me understand a film or conversation. The more one depends on this highly unnatural, modified speech, the easier it is to convince yourself you master those phrases (you don't if it's not at a natural pace) and the harder it is to understand the language as it is spoken even in simple conversations. I want to know where I stand from the start.

Perhaps some people agree with you, but for those of us for want to work with the real language immediately or for the many people who use this platform who aren't beginners, I think these teachers are doing a great job and shouldn't change a thing.

“A new student wants to have a teacher that they can easily understand. We are not fluent Spanish speakers. We are beginners...”. guyomar, what part of that don’t you understand? Beginner student - not intermediate. We start out slowly and improve every day. Just because you’re so smart, doesn’t mean we all are. I directed my comment to teachers looking for new beginner students. “Sigh”
