about the 'grounded' I heard a sentences that goes like this "I can go to the prom right now, because I am grounded" what does it mean: " to be punish".

If am missing another meanings, please let me know.

to punish (an older child) by not allowing them to go out and have their usual social activities
My parents grounded me for a week.

I guess your sentece as to be something like "I can´t go..."
