What do you think about such things like boycotting the Olympic games?

What do you think about the proposal of some governments to boycott the important competitions like the Olympic games on the score of vexing a country where they take place?

As for me I believe that this is one of the worst thing which an authority can do for it’s citizens – some sportsmen lose the only chance to win medals and all their coachings are in vain, spectators lose a possibility to root for their sportsmen and in generally nobody cares about an absence of  the ignoring countries.
