'Is Organic Food Healthy and Environmentally Friendly?'
This question was asked me in an IELTS speaking section a long time ago. What do you think about it and why?
I found some facts that organic food may be contradictly effect on our health and environment. Organic food is considered to be containing more nutrients or beneficial substances. Untill I read a book about the organic food and conventional food, I did not think that the production of organic foods is creating more pollution than its conventional food. Some organic farms may be even inhumane due to no regulation of animal welfare in order to name the product as 'organic food'. (e.g. Failing to give animals a well sanitatized environment and failing to give them appropriate medication when they are sick.) Furthermore, organic tomatos have more antioxidants than conventional ones but this condition of the organic tomatos is a result of insufficient nitrogen. These are very shocking facts that I found.
Do you know other amazing facts about the production of organic food?
How about the ideas about organic food in your country?
